Sneak Preview
A tropical island on the Caribbean Coast of Mexico, Cancun was a relatively unknown fishing island till the late 1960s when the Mexican government developed it into the exotic resort that it is today. The island itself is a naturally selected tropical paradise with gorgeous beaches and lagoons and shores that are washed with the most brilliant shades of aqua. The island is ideally located for tourism, being closer to Miami than it is to the Mexican mainland!
The Yucatan with its abundant ruins of Mayan culture is a nearby destination. Cancun itself is a narrow ribbon of white sand shaped like the number seven. It is 22.5 km long and is splashed by the Caribbean Sea. This splendour is offset by ultra-modern luxuries and cultural and man-made attractions that make Cancun a coveted tourist destination.

The Mayan word Cancun means ‘pot of snakes’ – but you can be sure that on the glistening beaches of Cancun there are no snakes – only aquamarine waters, golden sand and sun worshippers!

Historically Speaking
The island has a rich Mayan culture that flourished till the advent of the Spanish conquistadors in 1519. In 1967 when the Mexican government focused its attention on developing more than just the Pacific Coast beaches, Cancun stood out as an attractive proposition. By the mid-1980s, Cancun had bloomed into a booming tourist resort with all the trappings and creature comforts of a luxury resort.
