Getting Around Cancun Cancun is well geared for the tourist and transportation in the city is easily available. There are reasonably priced van transfers from the airport, private taxis that are expensive, and car rental companies which you can contact at the airport itself.
Taxis are plentiful in the resort area; though they are highly priced and a short trip can set you back US$3-4. The bus service is inexpensive and convenient and buses stop just about anywhere to pick up passengers for a fare of just 6 pesos. Make sure you give 6 pesos coins only. American bill will be accepted but don't expect any change in return!
You can be adventurous and rent a moped by the hour or for the day. But it is best to drive these only if you are experienced, as downtown areas are congested. Remember to observe speed limits carefully.
Downtown areas can be explored on bicycles down a 10-km path. Passenger ferries connect the offshore islands from convenient points. The Mayan ruins of Mundo Maya beyond the Yucatan Peninsula can be accessed by air.
