Economy
Mayotte depends on France for a large portion of food requirements. Imported items are usually ten times the value of the exported items. The future development and economy of the island is all in the hands of the French government, but because the island is remotely located it is difficult for the locals and the French to tap into the tourism industry that could be a very big revenue earner for the island. The only income the people have is through subsistence farming, fishing and livestock rearing. Apart from these, they are dependant on employment provided by the French administration and armed forces.
