Indonesian food is one of the best in South East Asia, so if you’re fond of eating, give it a try- you won’t regret it. There are lots of eateries, ranging from high-class, chic restaurants in the deluxe hotels and resorts of the large cities; and there are much cheaper, but equally good, mid-range restaurants and smaller food stalls too. They’re suited to virtually any budget, so even on very little money you can have a good meal.
If you’re not too keen on local food, there are lots of eateries serving foreign cuisine- you can get Japanese, Chinese and Indian food, Continental cuisines and even fast food in most of the larger cities, where, with some footwork you’ll usually be able to find something you like.
If you’re looking for entertainment in Indonesia, there’s lots around- and of different types too. If you like your recreation loud and bright, then you’re probably best off staying in large cities, especially Jakarta, which has its fair share of nightclubs, discotheques, and karaoke bars and lounges.
If you’re fond of traditional art forms, there are a number of venues, which hold regular performances of dance, dance-drama, puppetry, shadow play and music. A number of restaurants even offer live `gamelan’ music (the traditional form, using typically Indonesian instruments), so even without going to a theatre or a music hall you can have a taste of local culture.
