Festivals and Events in Bintan Island

Bintan celebrates three main festivals:

Chinese New Year takes place on February 7. It is celebrated with great aplomb and festivity. There are traditional Chinese song and dance performances along with a colourful street parade with vibrantly painted dragons and lions.

The Independence Day on August 7 is celebrated throughout the city. There are traditional carnivals, cultural performances and sporting events to celebrate this event. A flag raising ceremony takes place at the Merdeka Presidential Palace.

Tanjung Pinang International Dragon Boat Festival is held on the 1st of October every year. The boats are brilliantly colourful and the traditional performances entertaining. Instead of being a mere spectator, you can participate in activities like canoe racing, diving and swimming.
