There are many places to shop in Uttarakhand. Visit big towns like Dehradun, Mussoorie, Nainital and Almora for shopping. Dehradun’s Paltan Bazaar and Rajpur Road, Almora’s Lala Bazaar and Chowk Bazaar; and the Mall in Mussoorie and Nainital are the main shopping districts. Among the best buys are locally produced goods, like woollen garments, shawls, carved wood items, metalware and jewellery. A lot of other bric-a-brac is available too, some of it pretty nice as souvenirs: handcarved wooden walking sticks, candles decorated with dried flowers, and brassware.
Less durable buys - but worth every rupee you spend on them - are the local fruit, dry fruit, pickles and jams produced in the area. They’re available all across the area, and some of the best fruit and pickle is to be found in the most nondescript of shops along the highway - keep a look out for them.
