What to Pack

Special Permits
IMP: Indian nationals need to carry some identity cards like driving license, voter's card, passport etc to enter certain restricted areas in this hill station although it is generally not required.
Foreigners are granted visas for 15 days and are permitted to visit Gangtok, Rumtek, Phodong and Pemayangtse. The permits are issued at the Foreigners Regional Registration Office at Kolkata and also at Siliguri.
For those interested in going for trekking in the interior region of the state, the Department of Tourism issues Protected Area Permit (PAP) at Gangtok which is available for certain specified area for groups consisting of two or more foreigners subject to condition that the trekking programme is arranged through a registered travel agency.
