Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary

History

The Tholpetty Wildlife Sancturay was established in the year 1973, and is spread over an area of 344 sq km.

The sanctuary is renowned for its native elephants. Besides elephants, langurs, boar, bisons and the spotted dear are also found in the sanctuary.In addition, one can also spot the red deer and spotted deer, as well as wild boar, Indian Bison, monkeys and peahens.

A guide, the company of whom is mandatory, can be booked at the entrance of the sanctuary, in addition to a two hour jeep safari arranged by the forest department.

Besides the abundant flora and fauna, the sanctuary also offers several interesting treks that promise to be a treat for nature lovers.

Best time to visit

The best time to visit is between the months of October and February.

Trivia

A remarkable experience, one surely not to be missed here is that of Night camping. You can watch the various animals, that come to the lake to drink water,from the watch tower of the sanctuary which is located above the lake.

Timing

The wildlife sanctuary is open everyday from morning Open 6:00 am to 8:00 pm and evening 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm.
