Brilliant green is the colour of Kerala. As you trundle down its roads, sail through its lagoons, trek in tea country and hit the trail of the langoors, it’s that colour that’ll be with you. The places to see in Kerala are many and a sightseeing tour will bring a whole lot of gratification.
The capital city, Thiruvananthapuram, is a good communication hub. Many travellers catch a flight or train to the city, which is in the very south, and make their way through the state, past the beaches and fun of Kovalam and Varkala, cruising through the lush backwaters from Alappuzha to Kollam, spending a few days at the exceedingly pleasant city of Kochi and then on to Kumarakom and the backwaters at Alleppey and so on.
The wilds of Periyar, where lumbering elephants roam the jungles, back-to-basics Wynaad and the tiny Parambikulam Sanctuary are great places to visit for nature enthusiasts. Munnar is tea and spice country; slopes awash in a tremendously refreshing green are as much of a pull as the atmospheric town itself.
The Lakshadweep Islands in the Arabian Sea are easily reached from Cochin (Kochi). The delicious cocktail of silver sand, shimmering blue waters, snorkelling and diving that it is demands a good long glug!
