Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden

History

The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, known earlier as the Model Floriculture Centre is located in Siraj Bagh, near the banks of Dal Lake in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. It is the largest Tulip garden of Asia, covering an area of around 12 hectares.

Resting on the foothills of Zabarwan Hills with an overview of picturesque Dal Lake, the garden was conceived and created by Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad, the then Chief Minister, of Jammu and Kashmir in the year 2006-07, in order to boost floriculture and advance tourism in the valley of Kashmir.

There are over 20 lakh tulips in the Indira Gandhi Tulip Garden, all blooming delightfully at an altitude of 5600 feet. The garden is surrounded by the renowned Nishat Bagh and Chashmashahi Mughal Gardens of Srinagar.

Best time to visit

The best time to visit the Indira Gandhi Tulip Garden is between the months of October and April.

Trivia

There are over 70 varieties of tulips in the garden. The garden also plays host to the annual Tulip festival around the month of April.

Timing

The garden remains open from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm every day.
