History

The lush green Kailasagiri Park offers a panoramic view, and a serene ambience, making it a beautiful tourist attraction in Visakhapatnam. Spread over 100 acres on a hilltop, Kailasagiri Park offers plenty of leisure activities and well maintained places. It is one of the well-known hilltop parks with a wide sea view on the East Coast and several view points to enjoy the tranquil atmosphere and scenic beauty.

The park is situated on a hilltop at a height of 360 feet, facing the east coast. Some of the important attractions located in and around the Kailasagiri Park are Shiva Parvathi statue, Floral Clock, Jungle Trails, Shanti Ashram, Art Gallery, Children Play Park, Conference Hall, Titanic View Point, Toy Train, Gliding Base Point, Telescopic Point and Shanku Chakra Naama.

The main highlight of the park is the 40 feet tall Shiva Parvathi statue. The hill derives its name from this statue depicting the abode of Lord Shiva and Parvathi. The massive sculpture is visited by many people. The Floral Clock is another attraction of Kailasagiri Park and amongst the biggest clocks in the country with a diameter of 10 feet. The clock stands as a landmark at the entrance giving an artistic impression on the backdrop of the Shiva Parvathi statue and draws huge crowds. The Titanic View Point offers a panoramic view of the sea side as well as the hills. The view point is one of the prime attractions of the park as its frontal distance from the ground looks like a ship and resembles the ‘Titanic’. The Shanku Chakra Nama symbolises the idol of Lord Vishnu in its purest form.

Another remarkable attraction of the Kailasagiri Park is the toy train which is in force at the top of the park. This train makes the ride enjoyable by taking a full circular tour of this park. One can also enjoy paragliding here. Kailasagiri Park is a glider’s ecstasy with excellent gliding facilities.

Kailasagiri Park provides exotic views from many vantage points owing to the beautiful landscape and Eastern Ghats surrounding it. One can have an imposing view of the city lit up in the evening from this hilltop park.

Best time to visit

The winter months of October to March offer pleasant climatic conditions and the best time to visit the Kailasagiri Park and Visakhapatnam.
