Tahiti looks like a lopsided figure of eight from a bird’s eye view - made up of the twin islands of Tahiti Nui and Tahiti Iti, joined together by a narrow isthmus called the Plateau of Taravo.

Take home some pearls – after all this is the home of pearls! Other items to but would be local handicrafts, a painting or two and maybe a sarong to remind you of the halcyon days you spent in Tahiti!

The adventurous and active traveller will find plenty to do as well. In common with the other islands, Tahiti too has excellent infrastructure for a variety of activities ranging from golf on a picturesque 18 hole golf course to treks into valleys and up mountains to helicopter rides for a quick once over of all the Tahitian wonders.

Choose from a varied selection of cuisines – American, Japanese, Chinese, French and Polynesian. There are loads of restaurants on the island and cater to all tastes and types from fine dining to bars and cafes.

Chinese New Year is celebrated with great enthusiasm in January /February. There are cultural programmes held with lots of music and dancing – generally a time of festivity.
