Best Time to Visit Galapagos Islands

The best time to visit depends on many factors. Remember there are two seasons in the Galapagos: hot and rainy from January to May and the dry season runs through the rest of the year. In August and September the seas get rough, so it would be better to avoid visiting during these months.

If its the weather you are looking at then April - May may be good as far temperatures are concerned, and the waters are calm and warm, making it perfect for diving. The high season has not yet kicked in, so there are less tourists around and prices are low. The tourist start pouring in by June when it gets quite busy, and prices shoot up.

Bird watchers may want to visit during April to June as this is when the waved albatross can be sighted, along with other migratory birds.

Diving enthusiasts can view fantastic marine life from June to November. True the seas are rougher and colder but this is when the the mammoth whale sharks are found near Darwin and Wolf Islands. Hikers may prefer to come in the dryer and cooler months of June through December.

Plan on spending at least a week on your trip. Since getting from site to site must be done by boat, and the sites aren't really in close proximity of one another, it is a time consuming affair. Ideally, of course, you would be able to make your Galapagos trip a two-week sojourn.
