Contrary to common perception that China is country that offers the tourist little chance of enjoying the outdoors, China is a treasure trove where outdoor activities are concerned. Right from cycling and hiking to tai chi and panda tracking in Sichuan, China offers a range of activities.
CYCLING
There are an inordinate amount of bicycles in China, as it the most common mode of getting around in China. One can hire a bike almost anywhere and this may actually be the best way to explore the countryside. Cycle along the Great Wall of China or in the Guilin area - spectacular scenery awaits you and it perfectly safe.
HIKING & MOUNTAIN CLIMBING
Hiking and mountain climbing are popular outdoor activities in China. A popular hiking route in China is to the base camp for Everest as is the Tiger Leaping Gorge and runs along the Great Wall. China has some breathtaking scenic views around.
In China reside some of the world's highest mountains, among them Mount Everest (or Qomolangma), at 8,848m (29,021ft), and Namcha Barwa, at 7,756m (25,445ft), around which the Brahmaputra River carves a fantastic gorge to enter India.
