At an altitude of 600m, Santiago, the capital of Chile, has a generous view of the Andes that stand in their snowy glory nearly all through the year. The well-maintained gardens are usually in full bloom and complement the gargantuan skyscrapers. Like any other modern city, Santiago is noisy, crowded and smog affected. Museums, tombs and preserved neighbourhoods give the city a sense of history despite the modern edifices cluttering the skyline.
|
Santiago closes early: the subways shut down at 10:30 every night and Sundays the restaurants and bars are closed.
When in Santiago try their famed drink: A grape drink called pisco – but watch it- it is heady and too much of it can have you wooly headed in no time!
