Rocky Mountains Travel Guide

The Rockies in Canada are made up of four beautiful regions - Banff, Jasper, Algonquin and Lake Louise. Each spot has something unique to offer to its travellers.

To start with, the town of Banff sits within the Banff National Park and is a well known tourist spot in Canada. Think of Banff and you will be delighted with the view of rugged landscape, dense and lush pine forests, soaring mountains, glaciers and abundant flora and fauna. Summers are dry whereas winters in Banff are tempered down by the warm Chinooks. Hit the camping sites and go hiking in the wilderness – there are 1,600 km of trails through the mountain park, and you can follow a trail that takes you anything from one hour to one month!

Algonquin is a park for all seasons and is located in the Canadian Shield between the Georgian Bay and the Ottawa River. A quick getaway from Ottawa, the park is a perfect spot for adventure buffs and wildlife enthusiasts. The colours of its fall are truly spectacular - fiery forest reds, oranges and gold; maples, aspen and oak leaves crunching under your feet. This is the time you can hear wolf packs howl, and see big bull moose in full-antlered anticipation of the mating season. And while you are on the look out, you might spot an otter, beaver, osprey, raccoon or mink or look up to see hundreds of birds and waterfowl fluttering over the lakes.

Beam me up, Scottie! To Jasper , the marvellous little town in the gigantic Jasper National Park, a hotspot in the Canadian Rockies. You can beam yourself up for just about any kind of holiday here – a wild safari, outdoor adventure, fishing, boating, snowmobiling or skiing. Or hiking through scenic Alpine meadows, canoeing down amazing rapids, cavorting in powdery snow, or just losing yourself in the magic of dense forests, vast glaciers and tranquil lakes. Jasper packs a large punch, all 13,000 square km of it.

Lake Louise is located in Banff National Park and offers spectacular scenery of the galciers and mountains all around it. With numerous hiking and walking trails and amazing ski spots, Lake Louise serves as the “Hiking Capital of Canada”.

The natural beauty of the Rocky Mountains is a veritable wonder of nature! With picturesque views of mountains and glaciers, abundant flora and fauna, fresh water bodies and lots of exciting activities, the Canadian Rockies attract thousands of travellers all year round!
