History
Jasper National Park is a beautiful wildlife park which boasts of a large variety of exotic flora and fauna. Wildlife safaris for moose, caribou, elk (wapiti), beaver, and coyote are an around-the-year experience (unless the animals decide to hibernate) in Jasper!
The view of Alberta’s Rockies is stupendous. Purple mountains wearing white snowcaps, dazzling meadows in full bloom, the clearest of blue skies and the deepest of green forests. But the most exciting element of your holiday is the way you choose to beam yourself around the mountainside. The good news is that you don’t have to be a mountain climber to explore the mountains - just take a heli-hiking tour through the Alpines to reach modern lodges in the wilderness.
One of the most amazing mountain drives is through the Icefields Parkway between Jasper and Lake Louise. The harshness of the landscape belies the smoothness of the eminently motorable road. Viewing points, hiking trails and campsites dot the route. You can walk or take a snowcoach to the glacier. Cruise up to Spirit Island in the Maligne Lake, go white water rafting, trout fishing and canoeing all summer and tour or ski around the frozen Maligne Canyon in winter. Marvel at the stunning Athabasca Falls crashing through a sandstone gorge, gaze at canyons and caverns, hot springs and frozen glaciers, waterfalls and icefalls. Don’t miss the Sunwapta Falls where the Sunwapta River abruptly changes its course and plunges down a canyon.

Best time to visit
You can visit here at any time of the year, depending on your itinerary. Japer has some spectacular winter sports - carry winter resort woollens, sunscreen and snowshoes. Its best to travel with light woollens no matter what the season, because summer evenings tend to be cool, while spring and fall can see sunny days. Pack some rain gear, too, as mountain weather is unpredictable.

Trivia
