Good food is available in plenty in Canada -- from the bland British food to fiery Indian and Thai curries, you can taste all of the world’s tastiest dishes here. Small bistros are to be found all over the country, and price wise, these fall in the mid range category. On the upper end of the spectrum there are expensive restaurants serving gourmet cuisine and at the lower end the “greasy spoons”, Canada’s equivalent to the American diners. These dish up salads and sandwiches and more often then not you could get a good meal at a really cheap price.
Restaurants usually close at midnight while bars shut at different times depending on the province - Quebec is the last at 3 or 4 am while in most other areas, 1 or 2 am is the normal time.
There is always plenty happening in the evenings to keep you busy. The main cultural season starts in November and carries on till May. Theatre, opera and ballet are a few of the cultural pursuits that can be enjoyed through the season. French theatre is mostly enjoyed in Montreal and Toronto and Vancouver favour the English arts.
A variety of nightclubs and bars present jazz, blues and rock performers to entertain you. Sports bars and clubs with pool tables and recorded music are also very popular.
