Festivals and Events in Cambodia

Almost all traditional Cambodia festivals are influenced by Buddhism, Hinduism or Royal cultures. Some of the many beautiful festivals in Cambodia are:

National Day celebrated on the 7th of January marks the end of the Khmer Rouge regime.

The Water Festival celebrated at the end of October or the beginning of November depending on the full moon is one of the most extravagant festivals in Cambodia. Hundreds and thousands of spectators flock to the banks of Tonle Sap and Mekong rivers in Phnom Penh to watch paddlers battle it out for the top honours in the boat races.

The Angkor Wat Night Festival held once a year features splendid performances with the Angkor Wat in the backdrop. Artistes from all over Asia come to this festival to showcase their work.

Other important festivals are the Chinese New Year, Khmer New Years Day (mid April) and the Royal Plowing Day in May.
