Barbados

Economy

Sugar production is the dominant economic activity of the Island though there is a growing stress on light manufacturing and tourism. Tourism is the main foreign exchange earner although offshore banking is also fast becoming a well-established service industry.

Currency

The official currency of the Island is the Barbados dollar, B$, and it’s a good idea to change your money into the local currency, though it is possible to use US dollars for bigger payments.

Business Guide

Business has accelerated at a healthy rate in Barbados with offshore banking and tourism in the lead. The insurance sector is growing rapidly and the island is also a major conference centre. The political stability of the island has played a major role in Barbados becoming a preferred choice for conducting international business especially in the fields of information technology and financial services.

Business hours are from 8 am-4 pm Monday through Friday. The recommended dress code is shirt and ties or light business suits. The normal business courtesies of making and keeping appointments are followed.
