TRAVEL GUIDE

Making tracks

Pattaya is 147 km from Bangkok, a drive of 2 hours on the highway. Buses and trains come in from Bangkok and other towns in Thailand. The closest airport is at U-Tapo, a half hour drive from Pattaya. Within Pattaya, cars, jeeps, motorcycles and taxis are inexpensive. Take a water scooter, ferry, hydrofoil or boat to neighbouring islands.

Best time to go

December to February is the best time to visit. The temperature will be around 30° C and humidity is always high. Tropical rain is very likely at this time. Carry only light cotton clothes, beachwear and plenty of sun protection.

Room with a view

Pattaya has excellent hotels, resorts, luxury beachside hotels, bungalows and lodges in the high to medium budget range. For budget accommodation, try inland hotels and guesthouses. Pattaya is a popular destination - book in advance during the season.

Simply scintillating

Never ending beaches, endless water sports and outdoor activities, a pulsating nightlife, gourmet dining, sunny climes - happy holidays are here at Pattaya, Thailand’s vibrant vacation destination, just a stone’s throw from Bangkok. At Pattaya, the sun never sets on the action, whether it is romping on the beach or boogying at a disco.

Pattaya grew from a quaint fishing hamlet to a classy international resort with golden beaches and scintillating nightclubs. The city faces a crescent bay smattered with offshore islands. Cliffs and coves and shaggy palm fronds line the seashore. The beaches are full of action - Hat Jom Thian and Pattaya beach are the most happening beaches, but there are others towards the north that are quieter and more secluded. You can also scoot around on water scooters to neighbouring islands and beaches like Ko Lang, Ko Samet and Rayong.

There are plenty of opportunities for water sports - windsurfing, snorkelling, water-skiing, surfing, scuba diving and deep sea fishing in particular. Equipment and expertise is available on the waterfront. Besides the water sports, Pattaya is famous for outdoor pastimes, for its tennis courts, golf courses, bowling alleys, horse riding, archery, go-karting and motor racing tracks. Nong Nooch Village is a lively recreational paradise for family fun.

Pattaya comes alive at night, especially when the restaurants, bars, pubs, nightclubs and discotheques all over “The Strip” in South Pattaya wake up. The area is also a shopper’s mecca and you can pick up the best of Thailand at the shops and boutiques that line the Strip. Pattaya offers enough attractions to keep you occupied but you can venture into nearby Mini Siam and Mini Europe, Million Years Stone Park and Crocodile Farm, Pattaya Elephant Village and Pattaya Park.
