SRI LANKA
Beach at Sri Lanka Discover each other in a fantastic honeymoon in Sri Lanka, Asia’s exotic treasure island. This blue bijou sparkles off the southern tip of peninsular India, in the aqua waters of the Indian Ocean. Sri Lanka is pure serendipity, just the right place for newlyweds to embark on a romantic journey of discovery. The isle has always epitomised the extraordinary – where the earth yields a precious bounty of 'pigeon blood' rubies and bright green emeralds, and sapphires as big as rocks. All over the country, you will see old forts, museums, temples, viharas, churches, wildlife sanctuaries and beaches. Colombo, the capital is a natural base for your forays into other cities like the culturally vibrant Kandy.

Bentota and Hikkaduwa are famous for their golden beeches and coral reefs where you can go snorkeling, scuba diving, surfing and float on glass bottom boats. The sheer anonymity of being in Sri Lanka is a honeymoon in itself!

Getting there

Sri Lanka is accessible by air and by sea on cruise liners. A few airlines other than the national carrier, Air Lanka, fly to Kattunayake International Airport (Sri Lanka’s lone international airport). Indian Airlines operates daily flights to Colombo from a number of southern Indian cities including Thiruvananthpuram and Chennai.

Getting around

Internal flights are non-existent in Sri Lanka, but trains and buses are available for travelling around the country. Hiring a car, especially a chauffeur-driven one is a good idea. Three-wheelers, car and motorcycle rentals are other options. For the more adventurous, may we suggest a bicycle trip through the country.

Accommodation

Sri Lanka has a wide range of accommodation, from inexpensive guesthouses to deluxe hotels and international class luxury resorts, where you can spend a bomb. Tariffs range from US$ 20 for economy rooms to US$ 100-400 for luxury resorts.

Best season

Sri Lanka’s climate is balmy – cool and without extremes of temperature. Average temperatures range between 26° and 31° C. Ideally, the best time to visit Sri Lanka is either between December and March if you’re headed for the highlands or the west and south coasts, or between May and September if you’re visiting the east coast.
