Looking for a dream
honeymoon location? A honeymoon in Shangri La? Look no further than Bhutan, Land of the
Dragon, land of ethereal beauty and artfully preserved splendour. A land of mountains and
cascading waterfalls, a land of yaks and shaggy dogs. Where you wake up to crisp mornings
and chirping birds; where you can reach out to pluck the stars from a twinkling night sky.
Bhutan, the mythical kingdom of temples and monasteries, with its grand capital, Thimpu,
the legendary city of Paro with its magnificent Himalayan vistas, the ancient capital of
Punakha and the splendid peaks of Mount Jhomolhari. Thimphu is a
regal city, a rather unusual capital, that houses treasures like the Thangka Painting
School and the Tashichho Dzong. |
The town is a
picturesque page out of a childs drawing book, the quintessential valley town, hills
hovering in the backdrop and a river sweeping right through. So come to this romantic
paradise for a honeymoon in Shangri La.
Visitor permits

are admitted only in groups by pre-arrangement with the Tourism Authority of Bhutan. Indian citizens don't need a passport but should have
some form of identification a driver's license, election card or passport.
Getting there
You can access
Bhutan by air or road; there is no railroad. The only airport is at Paro. Take a flight on
the National carrier, Druk Air, to Paro from Delhi or Kolkata. You can drive or take the
bus from India to Bhutan via the border town of Phuntsholing.
Getting around
Bhutan does not have domestic air services or railroads. You can
hire cars from individual contacts or travel agents. Buses are slow and uncomfortably
crowded. Unmetered taxis operate in Thimpu and Paro and the fares are negotiable. The main
tourist spots are accessible on good roads.
Best season
Spring and autumn are the best seasons to visit Bhutan, particularly
the months of October and November, when the skies are clear and you can get stunning
views of the mountain peaks. For those who wish to catch a Bhutanese festival, especially
the masked dance of the monks, the months to be there are October and March. Winter is
blissfully uncrowded for a quiet honeymoon.

accommodation available in Bhutan, varying in quality. During the peak tourist season, it
is usually difficult to get bookings. If you have
booked your tour in Bhutan through a travel agent, the fixed 'daily tourist tariff' takes
care of your accommodation. If you havent booked in advance, please note that the
facilities in budget hotels may be substandard. Tariffs range from US$20-50 for economy
and mid-rung accommodation, to $200 and above for deluxe.
