BALI

Lake Bratan, Bali A honeymoon in exotic Bali? Quite the most exuberant overture to romance. Bali, the best loved of all the Indonesian islands, instantly evokes images of ancient temples, graceful dancers, beaches, and an elegance beyond compare. Against the backdrop of the island’s towering volcanoes, rippling streams and green fields is a heady combination of the spiritual and artistic, a facet that is expressed in beautifully decorated temples and dance dramas. Denpasar, the capital of Bali, is crowded; but you could spend time at the glorious beach resorts of Sanur, Kuta and Nusa Dua, or the cultural hotspots of Batubulan and Celuk to the northeast of Denpasar; or retreat to the mountain town of Ubud.

Indulge in water sports like sailing, snorkelling and windsurfing, or go trekking through the picturesque hills. Bali is an exuberant fusion of everything you would want from a honeymoon destination - entertainment, culture, and natural beauty.

Getting there

Besides the national airline (Garuda), a number of other carriers too fly to Bali’s International airport, Ngurah Rai, which lies in the south of the island, not far from the capital Denpasar. Bali is a port of call for cruise liners and ferries passing through South East Asia.

Getting around

Denpasar is the main hub of transport in Bali. You can hire cars, taxis, bicycles and motorbikes. Some hotels and resorts also rent out vehicles to guests. Local buses ply all over the island. Boats and ferries offer an exciting travel option along the coast.

Best season

Temperatures in Bali do not fluctuate through the year, and hovers at 31° C. The rainy season sees high humidity from October to April. Weather-wise, the best time to visit is during the dry season (May to September). But this is peak season, so be prepared to be surrounded by tourists.

Accommodation

There are many accommodation options, but its best to book well in advance. The choice ranges from cottages and guesthouses, to luxurious hotels and beach resorts, with restaurants, nightclubs and discotheques. Besides Denpasar, destinations such as Sanur, Kuta and Bedugul have a wide range of tourist accommodation too. Economy rooms are available for US$15-20, mid-rung properties for $40-65 and luxury resorts at $200-400.
