Nashville,
Tennessee, rates as the most favored destination of hundreds of country music fans and
performers. The capital city of the state of Tennessee, Nashville has been often called
the Music City for its contributions to the country music scene. It is also a city of
learning -- there are more than fifteen major universities and colleges here, leading to
its title 'Athens of the South'. Nashville is also a major religious center -- there are
more than seven hundred churches here along with a whole host of church-related
institutions for training missionaries and administering church work. Nashville has a
mixed population with a strong black presence.
With the establishment of Fort Nashborough in 1779, Nashville began its
journey towards prominence and prosperity. In 1843, it was selected to be the state
capital and since then, there has been no turning back for the city. Today, it is a major
player in the South as far as manufacturing, finance, insurance, education and
entertainment industry is concerned.
Summers are hot and humid, with daytime temperatures rising quite high
but cooling off later in the evening. Fall is a good time with clear skies, brilliant
foliage and pleasant temperatures. July is the warmest month with temperatures touching 82
º F. There is light snowfall in winter and the average temperatures are in the mid 40s.
