One of the largest
cities in the state of Minnesota, Minneapolis is a cosmopolitan, artistic city laid out on
the banks of the Mississippi River. Abounding in parks and lakes, the city's name means
water city. It is home to the music superstar formerly known as Prince. The city has a
busy fast paced atmosphere, and will soon provide New Yorkers a run for their money.
Visitors will be charmed by the friendly residents, the amazing modern architecture and
interesting museums and art galleries.
The twin city of St Paul on the other hand is more conservative and
wrought with Victorian architectural splendours. The Museums will surely dazzle you, but
consumer culture is not far behind and the city is fast catching up with its hipper
neighbour across the expressway!
Minneapolis can get quite cold in winter with blustery winds making
outdoor activities difficult. Temperatures in winter range between the 10s and 20s.
Summers are pleasant and July is the sunniest month in the year. Temperatures stay within
the region of 57 to 83 degrees F. Fall is spectacular.
The cities have a mixed population with a preponderance of Germans and
Scandinavians. Several Asian communities are also present, thanks to large-scale
immigration from countries in the region.
