Ithaca in
upstate New York is famous as the home of the renowned Ivy League Cornell
University. Located on the southern end of the Cayuga Lake, Ithaca is a beautiful
town with over a hundred waterfalls around it. The most spectacular is the 210 ft Taughannock
Falls, ten miles from the town. Cayuga Lake offers wonderful opportunities for
boating and windsurfing. Cornell University boasts of the Herbert F Johnson Museum of Art
with a good collection of Asian and contemporary art.
You can get to Ithaca on Greyhound
buses or you can drive in from neighbouring towns. There are quite a few reasonably priced
hotels and inns here, particularly in areas such as Collegetown, close to the University
campus. Cheap eateries abound in Collegetown while the pedestrian Commons features several
good restaurants. Some venues have live music sessions at night.
