Aloha! Welcome to
paradise. The largest city in the state of Hawaii, Honolulu is set on the island of Oahu.
Most visitors to Hawaii begin their journey at Honolulu, moving on from here to the other
islands. Many stay on for the length of their vacation, lured by the tremendous beauty of
the city as well as the wonderful facilities it offers to visitors.
After the discovery of Hawaii by
Captain Cook, many European ships began stopping by at Honolulu, till then an
inconspicuous town. Soon, Honolulu became a coveted port for it offered safe anchorage
facilities. King Kamehameha then made it his capital, resulting in Honolulu becoming the
largest commercial center of the state.
Tourism is the mainstay of the economy of this state, with military installations being a
close second. Agriculture also contributes a fair amount to the economy of Hawaii. Large
plantations of sugarcane and pineapples make the food processing a healthy industry.
Besides this, publishing and printing also make contributions to the economy.
Honolulu has a multi-ethnic population comprising of native Hawaiians, Asians, Europeans
and mainlanders. Given its status as a prime holiday destination, Honolulu has a constant,
considerably large visitor population also. Honolulu is warm and balmy throughout the year
temperatures range between 70-85ºF.
