There are few sights as spectacular
as the Grand Canyon anywhere on earth. Words and photographs fall short of capturing the
essence of this geographical wonder and nothing prepares you for the first sight of this
vast and majestic natural wonder of the world. Quite naturally, the Grand Canyon National
Park is one of the most visited sites in the world.
Carved out by centuries of erosion,
the Grand Canyon of the Colorado River is 277 miles long and more than a mile deep and at
its broadest, is 17 miles wide. Millions of visitors stream by every year to this
fascinating region, to gape at the stunning enormity and the strange natural rock
formations that change colour by the hour.
Summers are hot here - temperatures inside the canyon may go beyond
100ºF. Winters are cold with snowfall, especially in the Northern Rim which is closed
down in winter.
