The best way to experience Disneyland
is to throw yourself totally into all that it offers and that it does in plenty. Adventureland
offers 2500 ft Indiana Jones ride, replete with dangers faced by the screen hero --
poisonous snakes, rolling boulder, etc. Frontierland features the Wild West while Fantasyland
has rides based on children's stories. Haunted Mansion but naturally has ghosts waiting
for visitors while TomorrowLand has the Space Mountain ride through a simulation of
outer space.
If you can tear yourself away from Disneyland make a visit to nearby Knots
Berry Farm- another complex offering roller coaster rides and other attractions. Get a
sense of being in a real goldmine when you go on the Gold Mine ride or become a kid again
in Camp Snoopy and hangout with your favourite comic characters. Scream your lungs out on
the spine chilling roller coaster rides of which Wind Jammer and Boomerang are just a few.
Later take in a sea lion show or see the frisky dolphins doing their thing at the Pacific
Pavilion.
When hunger pangs strike, try the fried chicken at the local diner.
Anaheim has a good selection of restaurants, expensive as well as reasonable. Inside
Disneyland, visitors are not allowed to bring in food but there are plenty of fast food
plazas within the park where one can grab a bite.
The summer months between May and September are warm with temperatures
remaining at around 80 degrees F. Winters are mild and very pleasant with temperatures
rarely falling under 54 degrees F. Summer is the peak season at Disneyland when special
attractions such as firework shows are put up. For the typical Disney experience, which
includes waiting in endless queues and being part of a crowd, summer is the best time to
be in Anahiem.
To get there, fly into John Wayne Orange County Airport, a 20-minute drive
from Anaheim. However, only domestic flights get in here. Take a taxi into Anaheim or rent
a car if you would like to be independent.
For international travellers, the nearest airport is Los Angeles
International Airport. Anaheim is thirty miles from downtown Los Angeles. From the airport
take a bus to Anaheim or rent a car from the airport counter of any car rental company.
Anaheim is 30 miles away from Los Angeles airport. Bus services and Amtrak trains connect
Anaheim to other destinations. Most hotels in town offer free shuttle services to its
prime attraction Disneyland. A car is very convenient to get around.
There are several hotels in Disneyland. Most of these places are expensive
and not for the budget traveller. However, if you are after a complete Disney vacation
feeling, then do stay here. There are several reasonably priced motel chains nearby. One
could also opt to stay in Los Angeles and make a day trip to Anaheim.
Besides carrying a good pair of sneakers (you will have to do plenty of
walking in Disneyland), bring plenty of enthusiasm and patience (read long queues) for all
the rides at Disneyland. We promise it will be worth it!!!
How can you go home without picking up a souvenir or two from Disneyland?
Take your pick from stuffed toys in the shape of Mickey Mouse or Goofy, caps and tee
shirts, mugs and key chains all proclaiming that you were once in Disneyland!
