Pronounced `Chih WAH wah, ’ this city is an important commercial, cultural and industrial center. Chihuahua was founded in 1709, and is the chief city in north Mexico. This is also the city after which the world’s smallest dog the Chihuahua is named. Cathedral, Chihuahua
Villa Museum The city houses numerous architectural monuments of the colonial era, such as the City Hall, Quinta Luz, the Government Palace, a Cathedral and the Villa Museum, which has Pancho Villa memorabilia.
The magnificent Copper Canyon Railway weaves its way through Chihuahua as it travels up the Rio Grande to the Gulf of California. The 13-hour railway offers a spectacular view of canyons, mesas and the peaks of the Sierra Madre Occidental. Quinta Luz

Chihuahua has a mild temperate climate and is pleasant most of the year. The climate here is 29º C at the hottest and 10.9º C at its coldest.

There are only two ways to get to Chihuahua - by road and by air. It has a domestic airport that is linked by flights from Mexico City, Monterrey, Acapulco, Cancun, Veracruz, Tijuana and Guadalajara.

Mexico city is 1464km which takes about 19 hours of driving. The drive from Monterrey which is 818 km from Chihuahua takes about 10 hours. To Acapulco which is further away, the estimated time to cover the distance of 1823 km is 23 and a half hours. Cancun is 40 hours away at 3129 km and Veracruz at 24 hours with a distance of 1827 km. Tijuana is 565 km from Chihuahua and it takes about 20 hours. Another way to get here is from Guadalajara 1241 km away with a travel time of 16 hours.

Hotels in Chihuahua are not very expensive but the facilities provided in them are adequate. Dining and entertainment revolve around bullfights, dog races, and horse races, night clubs and the numerous restaurants that serve Mexican and international cuisine.

Though one can use taxis and buses to get around the city, most of it can be covered on foot. On Palacio de Gobierno there is a small tourist office and the post office. Most banks are around the Plaza de Armas.
