Calling all
Titanic lovers! Get set for Halifax, the capital of Nova Scotia, from where the rescue
mission to the ill-fated ship was launched and the final resting place for many who
perished in the fatal brush with the iceberg. Various museums in the city house artifacts
from the ship, poignant reminders of a journey that was never to be completed . Another
tragic episode associated with Halifax is the Great Explosion of December 6, 1917, which
occurred when a French munitions ship loaded with TNT collided with another ship. The city
was razed to the ground, 1900 people killed immediately and 9000 injured. However,
charming, pleasant Halifax is not about sad memories - one of the largest natural harbors
in the world, the city is a great melange of the old and the new, with plenty of
museums, beaches and parks to enthrall most visitors. |
