MiddleEast > Kuwait > Introduction

K U W A I T

Kuwait is furiously rebuilding itself after its war with Iraq in 1990. The nation, which was just a cluster of tents 300 years ago, is an important country on the world oil map. Your visit will be a relaxed entry to the Muslim world – Kuwait is not as rigid as Saudi Arabia. Men in dishdashes and women in burkhas and yashmaks set amidst the ambience of high rises, landscaped parks and gardens, luxury hotels and beautiful boulevards make Kuwait a rare blend of the past and present.

Kuwait is surrounded by Iraq on the north and northwest, and Saudi Arabia on the west and the warm waters of the Arabian Sea on the south. Kuwait City, the capital of the State of Kuwait, is a mosaic of high-rise buildings, well tended gardens, luxury hotels, spicy souks, gold galleries and beautiful boulevards.
