| Canakkale, a small city in Turkey,
famed for its situation in the Dardanelles, hardly has anything in itself to take you
there, but it is a good base for you to visit Gallipolli and the ruins of Troy. While in
this city, take time out to visit the Cimelink Park (open daily from 9am to 10pm), the
Ottoman castle built by Sultan Mehemet the Conqueror in 1452, which is now the Army and
Navy Museum, and the Archaeological Museum where you can see relics from tombs of Troy and
Assos. |

Hotels, restaurants and cafes along the
promenade offer a place to enjoy the comings and goings of the harbour, and views of the
Kilibahir Fortress and the Archaeology Museum. Two star and reasonable accommodation are
available near the ferry pier.
Buses to and
from Canakkale connect to Ankara, Bursa, Edirne, Istanbul, Izmir, konya and Selcuk. The
telephone number of the Tourist Information Office is (286) 217 1187.
