| Lausanne is the essence of French
Switzerland and all things typically Swiss. Lausanne is the soul of romance, of snowcapped
peaks, of cool breezes, green vineyards, of chocolates, wines and Swiss cheeses. Lausanne
was a city graced by illustrious personalities such as Voltaire, Rousseau, Charles
Dickens, Edward Gibbon and Victor Hugo. This spectacularly beautiful city, home to
Switzerlands largest church, the Cathedral of Notre Dame, is an intellectual and
cultural centre and headquarters of the International Olympic Committee. You will find
plenty to see and do in Lausanne, from winter sports, hiking and sightseeing, to souvenir
hunting, swimming and sunbathing. Lausanne is today a major tourist destination, but the
city remains, despite all its commercialism, as elegant and charming a town as ever. |
