| The capital of Sweden, and the
largest city in the country, Stockholm is regarded as one of the most beautiful capitals
in the world. And with good reason too- situated at the junction of Lake Mälaren and Salt
Bay, it spreads out over the surrounding islands, a city of steel skyscrapers, cobbled
streets, old churches and a beauty which is quite inimitable. With the medieval Gamla Stan
as its heart, Stockholm is, nevertheless, a modern city. Its the industrial and
economic centre of Sweden, producing and selling everything from glassware and Absolut
vodka to chemicals and paper. Its also the cultural centre of the country, and
boasts of some of the best cultural institutions- the Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and
the Royal Dramatic Theatre among them. Stockholms got pretty much everything you
could want out of a trip. Beautiful parks and gardens, old buildings and museums; a vivid
nightlife and good dining; great shopping and the chance of visiting some of Swedens
most popular attractions. |
