The Germans know Ljubljana as Laibach, the Italians as
Lubiana. The city, besides being the capital and the largest city of
Slovenia, is also the cultural, economic and industrial centre of the
country. Ljubljana is the main gateway to Slovenia, and a city where
you can find a lot to do- whether you plan to spend your holiday
touring old museums or visiting all the nightclubs in town.
One in every ten people in Ljubljana is a student. And
from that simple fact, you can guess what the citys atmosphere is
like- young, vibrant and vivacious. This is a city where every little
street has a cosy café or a funky bar; where summer is one long-drawn
out party, where even old monuments like the local castle find
themselves commandeered by joyous students relaxing on the steps
.
And yet Ljubljana isnt just another frivolous
upstart. Its a beautiful, typically European city with all the
history, the medieval architecture and the classical music concerts
you could ask for.
