Delft may be to many people almost
synonymous with blue hand-painted pottery but theres more to this pretty and
enchanting town than just porcelain. An old town, dissected by canals and full of lovely
old gardens, Delft - `The City of Princes- is the birthplace of the enterprising
medieval microbiologist Antonie van Leeuwenhoek and the famous painter Jan Vermeer. All
through the city you can see where the artist drew so much of his inspiration from:
Delfts churches and old marketplaces, its gabled red-roofed houses and medieval
bridges - look straight out of a painting.
What makes Delft even more popular with
tourists is the fact that its also got interesting museums, a pulsating nightlife,
and lots to see and do for people of all ages. Whether you spend your day wandering
through the awesome halls of the Royal Army and Weapons Museum, or decide to unwind at a
canal side pub - this is one city where you can be assured of a warm welcome and a
memorable holiday.
