The largest inland city in all of
Scandinavia, Tampere is a city of parts. Of beautiful lakes, of rapids that run through
the city- of jazz and rock concerts; of the largest textile mills in Finland. Of some of
modern Finlands best architecture- the work of greats like Carl Ludwig Engel and
Lars Sonck- and of lovely green parks, interesting museums and bustling markets.
Tampere
is not an `old city- its only a little over two hundred years old- but
its definitely one of Finlands most vibrant and alive destinations. The city
is basically a manufacturing centre specifically for leather and fabrics, but has in the
past few years especially, acquired the status of a cultural centre too. Tamperes
restaurants, bars, theatres and nightclubs are among the liveliest in Scandinavia; and the
city has a calendar literally crammed with events, ranging from music festivals and folk
events to sports contests.
A city of many faces, indeed- and one that you certainly wont regret visiting!
