| One of Kuopios mayors had once
said that the citys strategy was to be `a good city to live in. That strategy
has been achieved and, may we add, its also become a good city to visit. Finlands
8th largest city has retained most of what is traditional to it, in language,
dress and custom. Its people have built a city that they can be proud of, and they
treasure the distinct native Savonian dialect as much as their colourful dress. Kuopio is
economically, commercially and culturally robust and hat it lacks in "sights",
it more than makes up for with ambience. Its alive, interesting, welcoming and packs
its calendar with exhibitions. The museums, pubs, restaurants, and roads that lead out to
the countryside with its abundant lakes and the lush forests of Savo make Kuopio the
perfect base from where to travel through the region. |
