Snuggled
against a backdrop of mountains overlooking a natural harbour, Castries, may look like a
quaint, quiet town from far but a close up reveals a bustling modern town impenetrable
when theres a cruise ship in town.
Unfortunately, many a fire have
taken from the town its historical legacy of colourful classic wooden structures and today
what remains are the glass and concrete fireproof structures giving the town a thoroughly
modern look. Even now, hidden somewhere among the concrete structures, is an architectural
delight that is sure to attract your attention as you stroll through the town.
The harbour is a buzz of activity especially when there is a cruise ship in port with
the passengers hurrying towards the duty free shops in the town. In the North, a tiny
finger of land protrudes into the waters of Port Castries. Partly reclaimed, Virgie
Peninsula is the most developed area of the Island housing the swankiest shopping mall of
the Island Pointe Seraphine.
