History

Perth was founded in 1829 and was virtually constructed by convict labour.  Convicts filling in during labour shortages built many of its buildings and bridges, including the Government House and the Perth Town Hall. The discovery of gold in the 1890s rejuvenated a stagnant city and most of the older buildings in the city were constructed in those boom times. The population of this isolated city increased dramatically as more and more people travelled to WA hoping to strike gold. This onslaught accelerated the city’s development and transformed Perth into a vibrant and cosmopolitan city - traits which even today make Perth an extremely pleasant city to visit.
