| The Snowies are located in the south
east corner of New South Wales, with the Victorian border in the south and the narrow
coastal plain of the Pacific coast to the east. Part of the Great Dividing Range and home
to Mount Kosciuszko, Australias highest mountain at 2228m. the Snowies rise
gradually from a height of just under 300m to altitudes of 2000m plus. This is pure cattle
county - it produces some of the finest beef, lamb and wool in Australia and was developed
by graziers and ranchers in the early 1820s as they moved inland to discover the rich
pastures, valleys and slopes of the Aussie Alps. Just six odd hours driving distance from Sydney, the difference in altitude,
temperature and terrain is quite startling forcing first timers to switch gears from
sunny, warm coastal Sydney to the cool, cool alpine slopes.
