| 80 km from Kathmandu is a phenomenal
village with small scattered houses, some agricultural and seismic research centres, and
one awesome mountain viewing tower that reveals the peaks that tower over the landscape
forking through the wafting clouds. |
 |
At 2322 metres, Daman
has found favour with tourists who want to see the great mountains without actually
trekking any great distance.
On a clear day several peaks taller than 8000 metres are visible, among them Annapurna
III, Manaslu, Shisha Pangma and the great Everest. Langtang and Himalchuli also loom up on
the horizon. Located just off the Tribhuvan Highway, your mountain panorama is just a
three-hour ride away from Kathmandu.
For a small town, Daman does surprisingly well in the accommodation department. Budget
motels, mid-rung lodges and the one deluxe resort provide you with a range from which you
can choose. An overnight stay at Daman is recommended if you like a spot of dawning orange
with your morning cuppa.
