"When you go home, tell them of us and say
That for their tomorrow, we gave our today"........
reads an epitaph in the War Cemetery at Kohima.
Picturesque and scenic, Kohima is the capital city of Nagaland, cradled in the eastern
verges of the Himalayas. Home to the brave, daring yet simple Naga tribes, it has a
curious unhurried pace of life, which makes it the ideal getaway for a city dweller. Relatively
modern, Kohima was built in the nineteenth century by the British. This is where the
Battle of Kohima took place and an estimated 10,000 allied soldiers lost lives during
World War II. In their memory an immaculate garden is still maintained by the Commonwealth
War Cemetery and is a must 'see' for all visitors to Nagaland.
