KASAULI
Kasauli guide >>> Kasauli travel guide and tourist information on Kasauli, how to get to Kasauli, also details on sightseeing in Kasauli, best time to visit Kasauli and accommodation in Kasauli
Kasauli Church Window- Christ Church The much-used term of `time warp' takes on a whole new meaning when applied to the pretty little town of Kasauli (1,927 mt) in Himachal Pradesh. The British came to Kasauli during the days of the Raj, and although they've gone, they've left behind more than a mere hint of their presence- in the quiet cobbled streets, the flower-filled gardens fronting gabled bungalows, the lovely churches around Kasauli. The bustle of Shimla, just 77 km away, seems almost part of another time zone. Kasauli is low on sights, but at the top of the list is definitely Monkey Point, named for the Hindu god Hanuman, a temple to whom marks the spot.
The view from Monkey Point- over the Sutlej River- is stupendous. Other than that, Kasauli's two churches- the somewhat unassuming Baptist Church (dating back to 1922) and the imposing neo-gothic Christ Church, with its stained glass windows- merit a visit.

You can also pay a visit to the Krishna Bhavan Mandir, a temple built in 1926 and as European in appearance as Kasauli's churches.

Also worth the experience are the walks around Kasauli- especially along the Lower Mall and the Upper Mall, and visits to nearby places such as Sabathu, a quiet cantonment town with an old Gurkha fort; and Dharampur, a picturesque hamlet that is home to a famous tuberculosis hospital.

Getting to Kasauli
The airport closest to Kasauli is at Chandigarh, 61 km away, and connected to Kasauli by bus and taxi. Buses and taxis also come into Kasauli from the nearest railhead, which is Kalka (40 km from Kasauli). Besides this, a good road links Kasauli to a number of towns in northern India, including Shimla, Chandigarh and Delhi, with frequent buses from across Himachal Pradesh arriving at Kasauli's bus stand.

Best time to visit Kasauli
Kasauli's at its best between April and November, when the weather's pleasant and not too cold. Deep winter (January-February) has temperatures hovering between 10 and 20°C, while peak summer- May and June- sees the mercury hit as high as 32°C.

Accommodation in Kasauli
Kasauli's not as commercial as Shimla, so options for accommodation are relatively fewer in number. Kasauli has an upmarket hotel and a couple of resorts where tariffs range between Rs 2,500 and Rs 5,000 per night. There are also a number of mid-rung and budget properties, with tariffs ranging from Rs 150 to Rs 750 per night. Most resorts and hotels in Kasauli offer highly discounted off-season rates.
