Delhi has a host of
small-scale industrial units, manufacturing razor blades, sports goods, radio and
television parts, plastics and PVC products, hand and machine tools and leather goods.
Besides, there are factories for galvanising and electroplating, textiles, chemicals,
fertilisers, soft drinks, and large printing presses. In the last few years a controversy
has been raging over the impact of industrial effluents flowing into the Yamuna and air
pollution from discharges. A court order to move the industries out of the city have met
with stiff resistance from manufacturers associations and the issue is yet to be
settled. Delhi also has a substantial rural belt, where crops like wheat, maize, bajra,
jowar and vegetables and fruits are grown. |
