Warning:
Travellers are strongly advised to avoid going to or through Sudan. The death toll in its civil war has already reached 1.5 million. It is ruled by a military dictatorship, which has abrogated the previous democratic constitution, silenced its press, and outlawed political parties and trade unions. Famines, epidemics of malaria and and meningitis have ravaged the population, even in the capital Khartoum.

Heavy bombing by the Islamist fundamentalist government of the predominantly black and Christian south is continuing unabated and travelers are likely to be caught in the crossfire.
