The museums in the capital city of Ougadougou are particularly fascinating especially the Ethnography Museum, the Snake Museum and the National Museum. The exhibits in the Ethnography and National Museums beautifully bring out the history of the country. The variety of snakes on display at the Snake Museum in the College de la Salle are fascinating, to say the least. 18 km to the north of Ougadougou is a small artificial lake where wildlife viewing is extremely popular. North of the capital is also Pabre, an ancient Mossi village, a short distance from another reservoir where animals come to quench their thirst regularly.

If you fancy seeing crocodiles at close quarters, try Sabou. But for the best of wildlife viewing, head to the three national parks at Kabore Tembi, at "W" near the Benin and Niger border and at Arly National Park. Sabou

The Ranch de Nazinga, south of Ougadougou and near Po, is a well-frequented game reserve with a large population of elephants, monkeys, baboons, warthogs and antelopes.

Grand Mosque, Bobo Dialosso Bobo Dioulasso is the second largest town in Burkina Faso inhabited by the Bobo tribe. The streets are attractive and Grande Marche is a lively market with some good bargains for attractive beads and woodcarvings.

Bobo’s Grande Mosquee in the Kibidwe district is a fine example of Sahelian architecture and the best sight to see in the town. The traditional building housing the Musee Provincial du Houet has a display of indigenous arts, crafts and relics. There’s a small entry fee for this Museum, which is open from 0830 to noon and 1530 to 1800 hours.

8km from Bobo is the scenic sacred fishpond of La Mare aux Poissons Sacres de Daffa. 18km away is the bathing pond of La Guingette, located in La Foret de Kou and for an extraordinary sight of hippos, you must visit the Mare aux Hippopotames, 66km from Bobo. The old city quarter of the Kibidwe district is the best place to buy crafts in the alleyways and artisans’ shops. If you happen to be there when the Fete des Masques takes place, don’t miss the spirited dancing late into the night by men swathed in feathers and wearing wooden masks. This fete takes place seven times a year.

Southwest of Bobo Dioulasso is the town of Banfora, a tourist’s delight with its magnificent Karfiguela Waterfalls 12km northwest of the town. If you visit Banfora, take a small trip 50km west of the town to see the amazing Sindou Rock Formations in the town of Sindou.

Important information: You will have to acquire a permit from the Tourism authorities to enable you to take photographs in Burkina Faso. It is highly recommended that you follow the regulations on the permit.
